During an appearance on This Morning, Denise, 66, and her Loose Women co-star Jane Moore, 

62, sat down with hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard to promote their latest project, Loose Women: The Podcast. 

However, amidst discussing the exciting new venture, the veteran presenter took a moment to hit back at some of the criticism she has received.

Denise Defends Her Role on Loose Women

Denise, who has been a staple on the Loose Women panel since 2005, addressed the frequent complaints from online trolls who accuse her of dominating discussions on the show. She laughed off the negative comments, stating, “It does make me laugh when you get people on some of the more cruel social media channels and they go, ‘Oh Denise Welch, it’s always about you.’”

Rather than letting the criticism affect her, she confidently responded with three simple words: “That’s the show.”

Jane Moore quickly chimed in, backing Denise’s perspective. “That’s the point!” she added, reinforcing the nature of the program, which is designed to be led by personal opinions and experiences.

Denise shared how the podcast provides an opportunity for more in-depth discussions, something that is often difficult within the time constraints of the television show. “What’s so lovely is that we have the time to let these subjects breathe a bit more,” she said.

Having known her for years, Denise had always been curious about Ayda’s experience of giving birth after previously having two children via surrogate. Denise was forced to pull out of her planned pantomime role as Captain Hook in Nottingham’s Peter Pan, as well as her own annual charity ball. Eventually, after taking time to rest and recover, she was able to return to television and share her experience with viewers.

Speaking about her struggles on Loose Women, she fought back tears as she described the overwhelming darkness she had faced. “It was so black, so dark, so quickly,” she said, highlighting how her mental health had deteriorated suddenly.

Another Health Scare After a Caribbean Holiday

Just as she was beginning to recover from her mental health struggles, Denise faced another setback. Shortly after returning from a holiday in the Caribbean, she was rushed to the hospital with acute peritonitis, a serious infection of the stomach lining caused by a perforated diverticulitis.

Denise recalled how she had been looking forward to returning to work, eager to show off her holiday tan, only to find herself hospitalized instead. Fortunately, doctors were able to treat the condition with antibiotics, avoiding the need for surgery.

With her health back on track, Denise is now focusing on her new projects and continuing to be a vocal advocate for mental health awareness.
