Cat Deeley found herself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons during a lively segment of This Morning. 

Viewers were left unimpressed as they accused the host of distracting her co-presenter, Ben Shephard, while he attempted to break a world record. 

The challenge, which took place on Tuesday’s (March 4) episode, was meant to be a fun Pancake Day celebration, but it quickly turned into an unexpected controversy.

Ben Shephard’s Pancake Day Challenge

In honor of Pancake Day, This Morning decided to put Ben Shephard’s skills to the test by 

challenging him to break the Guinness World Record for the most pancake flips in one minute. 

Armed with a frying pan and a pancake, Ben prepared to take on the challenge under the watchful eye of an official adjudicator from Guinness World Records.

As the timer started, Ben focused on flipping the pancake as many times as possible within the 60-second limit. However, instead of complete silence and concentration, his co-host Cat Deeley had other plans.

Cat Deeley’s Running Commentary

Rather than offering quiet support, Cat continuously cheered Ben on, providing a running commentary throughout the challenge. While her enthusiasm may have been well-intended, it appeared to throw Ben off his game.

At one point, Cat playfully commented, “I think he’s going a bit slow,” as she kept track of his flips out loud. In response, Ben quickly fired back, “Shush!” hoping to regain his concentration.

Despite his plea, Cat continued talking, even engaging in conversation with TV chef Juliet Sear, who was present for the segment. As the final countdown began, Cat excitedly called out, “10 seconds still to go!” while Ben attempted to stay focused on the task at hand.

Did Ben Break the Record?

Once the minute was up, Ben put down the pan, looking both exhausted and relieved. After reviewing the attempt, the adjudicator revealed that he had only managed to complete 70 pancake flips—falling short of the record.

Reacting to the disappointing result, Ben joked, “It was too much toss in the pancake.” While he took the loss in stride, many viewers believed that Cat’s continuous chatter had hindered his performance.

Following the segment, social media was flooded with reactions from This Morning viewers, many of whom criticized Cat for distracting Ben. A third viewer chimed in, “OMG Cat, shut up and let the man toss!” while another person declared, “Shut up, Cat! Dear lord, why is she trying to put him off?”

Others echoed similar sentiments, with one fan writing, “Cat, he can’t concentrate if you keep speaking.”

Despite the online backlash, some viewers defended Cat, arguing that her enthusiastic approach was simply part of the show’s lighthearted nature. Others pointed out that This Morning is known for its playful banter and entertaining segments, and that Cat was simply keeping the energy up.
