Brittany Cartwright is making it clear that she is putting her son first in the wake of Jax Taylor’s shocking admission about his struggles with substance abuse.

Following Taylor’s recent revelation about his long-term cocaine addiction,
Cartwright took to social media to express the devastating impact his struggles have had on both her and their three-year-old son, Cruz.
Brittany Cartwright Speaks Out

Cartwright did not hold back when addressing the emotional toll Taylor’s addiction has taken on their family.

In a heartfelt statement, she revealed that his substance use has caused “irreparable damage” to their child and herself.

“His addiction unfortunately has done irreparable damage to my son and I,” she wrote. “I’ve spent years trying to help him.”
Her words conveyed not only frustration but also deep pain over the situation. Despite Taylor’s efforts to get sober, Cartwright admitted she could not bring herself to express pride at this stage, adding, “I wish more than anyone I could say how proud I am of him today, but I’d be lying. His actions will speak for themselves.”
Why She Stayed for So Long
Cartwright also took the opportunity to address critics who have questioned why she remained in the relationship for so long despite being aware of Taylor’s struggles. She acknowledged that love can make it difficult to walk away, especially when children are involved.
“You can’t help who you fell in love with. I’ve done absolutely everything in my power to get him the help he desperately needed,” she explained. “Unfortunately, I was naive and believed his empty promises and his pleas to change for years.”
She went on to share how difficult it was to make the decision to leave. “Once you have a child with someone, it’s not easy to leave. It took everything in my power to gather the strength to walk away,” she admitted. “For those that have been through similar, you get it. For those that question me… that’s okay. I’m in a much better place now.”
Jax Taylor’s Public Admission
Taylor’s battle with addiction came to light earlier this week when he appeared on Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast. During the interview, he revealed that he has struggled with substance issues, specifically cocaine use, for two decades. He explained that one of his main motivations for getting sober is his son, Cruz.

“The big thing here is my son. He’s my drive, and he’s my No. 1 driver for this,” he stated.
Taylor acknowledged that his substance use had reached a breaking point where it was affecting every aspect of his life, including his ability to co-parent. “Obviously, I’m not the type of person who can have one drink and be okay. It’s just not in my cards, and I had to stop. I was going to lose custody,” he admitted.
He also recognized the embarrassment his addiction had caused, not only for himself but for Cartwright as well. “I’m embarrassing my ex-wife, and I’m embarrassing myself. Nobody’s looking at me seriously. I want to do it for myself.”
Struggles with Co-Parenting
As Taylor works toward sobriety, he is also dealing with the challenge of limited access to his son. According to him, he only gets to see Cruz when Cartwright allows it, and he is trying to do everything in his power to prove that he deserves to be in his child’s life.
“I take care of my son as much as [Brittany] allows me to. I don’t know what else she wants from me,” he said. “I’m doing everything that she’s asked for just because I respect her, and I want to make her happy. I’m going above and beyond to show her that I do care, and I want to be in my son’s life.”

A Difficult Road Ahead
Taylor’s admission is a major turning point in his personal struggles, but for Cartwright, the damage has already been done. While she continues to prioritize Cruz’s well-being, Taylor faces the difficult task of proving that he can maintain his sobriety and be a present, responsible father.
As their story unfolds, the focus remains on their son, who is caught in the middle of this deeply personal and painful journey. For Cartwright, the path forward is about healing and moving on, while Taylor’s challenge lies in rebuilding trust and demonstrating real change.
