Leo Woodall recently opened up about his journey with therapy and mental health in a candid new podcast interview released on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old actor, best known for his breakout role in the hit series The White Lotus,
spoke about how he turned to professional help after rising to fame, ensuring he remained grounded in the face of sudden exposure.
Appearing on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, Woodall shared that therapy became a vital tool for him as he navigated the pressures of Hollywood.

He explained that when his career took off, he quickly realized the importance of maintaining his well-being. “I think it takes therapy. I think everyone should do that.

I think I found a lot of confidence, a newfound confidence,” he said.

Reflecting on his experience with The White Lotus, Woodall admitted that he needed to rally and adjust to the public attention. “When things started to really kick off with White Lotus, I kind of had to rally quite quickly and go, ‘Okay, there’s going to be a lot of exposure. I’m a bit more out there now, and I want to make sure that I protect myself and stay sane and don’t lose myself.’”
Woodall emphasized that therapy was a crucial step in maintaining his mental health, helping him process challenges and emotions in a healthy way. “It’s a process,” he explained. “It takes that choice to go, ‘Okay, whatever it is that I’m struggling with, I need to work through it and I need to be able to talk about it.’”
The actor also acknowledged that some days in therapy feel unnecessary, but they still play an essential role. “There are days where, I don’t know if you do therapy, but you walk in, and you’re like, ‘You know what? I feel great today. I don’t need therapy.’ But those days are also incredibly important.”

Woodall shared that therapy has built resilience and a strong sense of self within him. “For me, it’s built a real resilience, and it helped me grow not just a sense of self but an acceptance that everyone else is also dealing with their own struggles. You can’t help everyone, and you can’t control anyone else’s behavior.” He described this realization as freeing and essential to maintaining his mental clarity.
Beyond his personal growth, Woodall also spoke about his latest project, the highly anticipated Bridget Jones sequel, Mad About the Boy. He plays Roxster, Bridget’s (Renée Zellweger) younger love interest. During the podcast, he gushed about working on the film and praised his co-stars’ talent.
“That’s one of those surreal moments,” Woodall admitted. “I love Bridget Jones. It’s one of those films I probably watched for the first time very young at Christmas, and then it became an annual thing. So to be a part of it, it’s very, very, very special.”

He had high praise for Zellweger’s performance, noting how she has shaped the character of Bridget Jones over the past two decades. “I think what Renée has done with that character across the span of 20 years is really incredible. There’s nothing quite like it. She’s made so many people, if not feel seen, then at least feel cozy. And Mad About the Boy achieves that same effect.”
Woodall also touched on his role in the film and the ‘toyboy’ label associated with his character. He stated that he isn’t particularly fazed by the term but emphasized that Roxster and Bridget’s relationship is more than just an age-gap romance. “It’s not the phrase that bothers me, really. It’s more that in the story, Roxster is actually more than just a toyboy. They do have a real relationship and find a real connection.”
The actor further pointed out that audiences are still adjusting to seeing younger man/older woman relationships in films. “People just aren’t used to seeing that dynamic on screen, whereas the older man/younger woman romance has been shown countless times.”

Additionally, Woodall provided a rare update on his relationship with his White Lotus co-star Meghann Fahy, 34. The couple, who began dating in 2022, has kept their romance largely private. However, Woodall shared in the interview that he is “very, very happy” with Fahy and credited her for keeping him grounded. “Everything would be a bit too crazy without her there.”
The couple first met in Sicily while filming season two of The White Lotus and have remained together ever since. They confirmed dating rumors in late 2023 when they were spotted sharing a romantic moment in New York City.
Leo Woodall’s openness about therapy and mental health adds to the ongoing conversation about the importance of self-care, particularly in high-pressure industries. His journey of self-discovery and resilience serves as an inspiration to fans, proving that taking care of one’s mental well-being is just as important as any professional achievement.
